This past Saturday was the BYU/UVa game! Pretty much everyone we knew from the Colonial wards/DC area was going and if they weren't, they were at the beach. I also knew of people who were traveling from Ohio, North Carolina, New York...its a very rare thing for the Cougars to come to the East Coast so when they do, BYU alumni travel from all over the area to watch them play. Basically, WE WERE READY. And we were excited!
First, I started off my day hitting a parked car in front of my house. Cool.
Luckily the ride was uneventful for Lester and we arrived in Charlottesville safely and unloaded all the things we brought for the tailgate.
The tailgate was organized by one of our friends and so of course we ended up seeing practically everyone we knew. It was SO HOT I couldn't eat anything and guzzled like 3 bottles of water.
Then I photobombed two of my favorite couples.
Thennnn we made the walk to Scott Stadium, which felt like took a million years. Literally. We were walking forever.
The first quarter I was with my parents in the very, very top row of the stadium. Dad was clearly excited :) It was so awesome seeing the Cougars run in to the stadium-it has been three years since I've seen BYU play in person (wow, I feel old).
Then right as the first quarter ended, they announced that there was lightning approaching the stadium and we alllll had to get out (i was so mad-this had happened to the Carolina game on Thursday and the delay was obnoxious). I went with Caity and DB because we were planning to go down closer to the field where our friends were after we got the clear to go back inside. Well......we were hiding under a tree right outside the stadium because it was only lightly raining, when it started POURING. So, we made a run for it back to the concourse. Clearly we were soaked. It was another 90 minutes before we were able to go back to our seats and the players began returning to the field. Everything was fine until the 3rd quarter: it started raining, again. Almost all of the people in our little group left, but a couple of us stayed. At that point, I was still wet from the FIRST rain storm, so I didn't even care. The rain picked up and it was absolutely POURING-but, at the same time BYU was gaining momentum. It was just awesome. Its a moment i'll never forget-standing in the pouring rain screaming for my Cougars :) Then, I looked around and a lot of the stadium was empty-but the BYU section was still pretty full. These people had traveled to Cville and they were going to see BYU play, rain or shine. It was so cool. Yes, we lost, but it was still such a great experience.
This was right after the rain stopped, soooo we were wet rats. And i have crazy eyes.
It was such a great day, truly. Some bizarre things happened, but thats what made the day so fun. Yes, I was in soaking wet clothes for almost 8 hours, and had to drive back to Arlington in them, but I don't regret a thing. Friends, football, etc.
