Another weekend, another trip out of town! This one may have been more in the area than my other trips, but I still think it counts.
This was my third Ward Retreat and was different from the others for three reasons:
1-It didn't rain at all.
2-The President was at Camp David while we were at our camp.
3-I stayed in a hotel.
1. The other retreats i've been to have included a LOT of rain. In 2012, Britt and I got caught in a massive downpour walking back to the main camp from our cabin that was almost a mile away and Matt had to come rescue us. Last year, it rained most of the day on Saturday. Now...i'm a BIG fan of rain and overcastness, but when you're camping and have limited resources, it can be a challenge.
2. Along with C1, we hold our retreat at the same place every year-Camp Greentop. It's in Maryland, about 90 minutes from where we live. Whenever people would discuss the site, they would say "it's close to Camp David." But I never realized HOW close. It's legit on the same mountain. And of course, the weekend we leave to get away from DC is the same weekend the President left to get away from DC. AND WE WENT TO THE SAME MOUNTAIN. I can't even deal. So, the main road that leads to our camp was closed and we had to go alllll the way around the other way in order to get there. It wasn't a BIG deal or inconvenience, but the road was blocked off right by the little road we took off the main road to get to camp-so every time we pulled in we saw the park police and secret service chillin. They always waved though-so nice.
3. Look...I'm not against camping. I'm fine with it. But for some reason this weekend I didn't feel like sleeping in a cabin that was crawling with creatures and freezing my buns off at night. After all the traveling I've been doing and the lack of sleep I was getting I needed to have a real bed. So when Marissa said some people were getting a hotel (this happens every year) I broke down and said I'd join her. It was marvelous. So glad I went that route. ALSO. Some of the secret service was staying in our hotel and I met a really cute one when I was sitting in the hall waiting for Marissa to shower. LOL he was so cute. Heyyyy.
Anyway, the retreat was great. Lots of relaxing and eating. Here's some pics!
we all had the assignment to cook breakfast Saturday morning. Mars fried up a LOT of bacon.
bishop snoozing, lol
roommate boning (minus Whit, who was in Italy) while watching peeps play sports.
andddd trying to stream the BYU/UVa game. what a show. it def did NOT work and we gave up, with a few of us going back to the hotel to watch.
Sunday morning we had camp church and President Davey, our stake president, was there to speak to us. He is so great-I really like him. He and my dad (and the wives) became friends through area stake presidency meetings and so I already kind of knew him when he got called to be our stake president. He had some really inspiring words to share with us about overcoming trials and enduring to the end. I KNOW he was extra inspired that day of what he needed to say and what we needed to hear-several people also mentioned the same thing. How blessed are we?
